Dental Trauma and Emergencies
Accidents happen, whether it’s a fall at the playground or a knock during sport. If your child has injured their teeth or mouth, Dr Soha is here to help quickly and calmly.
Common dental emergencies in children
Chipped, cracked or broken teeth
Knocked-out or loosened teeth
Teeth pushed out of position
Severe toothache or swelling
Cuts to the lips, gums or tongue
What to do straight away
Stay calm and check your child for any other injuries. If an adult tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently in milk and, if possible, place it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Then call us immediately. Baby teeth that are knocked out should not be put back in.
When to go to hospital
If your child has a head injury, has lost consciousness, or has heavy bleeding or swelling affecting their breathing, go to your nearest emergency department.
